In the second quarter of 2024, the music and podcasts category has seen varied performances among top apps on the unified platform. Here, we look at the trends for five leading applications in this space.
Yandex Music, books & podcasts experienced a noticeable uptick in revenue, growing from $14K to over $16K in weekly revenue, with peaks in late April and mid-June. Downloads for the app showed a similar trend, rising from around 8.7K to over 10K. Weekly active users also grew, starting at 461K and reaching over 502K by the end of June.
Spotify - Music and Podcasts saw its revenue fluctuate, peaking at $1.2K in late April and then dipping to just above $700 by early June. Downloads remained fairly steady, hovering around 7K per week. The weekly active users started at 475K and had a slight decline, ending the quarter at around 466K.
For VK Music: playlists & podcasts, revenue had its highs and lows, with a peak of $974 in the week of May 20th and then falling to $578 in early June, before climbing back up to $873 by the end of the quarter. Downloads started at just under 1.3K and saw an increase to around 1.8K. Weekly active users remained stable, starting at 70K and ending the quarter at a similar number.
YouTube Music experienced a gradual increase in revenue from $194 to $278 by the quarter's end. The app's downloads saw minor fluctuations but ended the quarter similarly to how they started, with approximately 1.4K downloads per week. The active user base showed a slight increase from 123K to 130K over the quarter.
Lastly, SoundCloud: Discover New Music had a revenue spike in early May, reaching $106, and ended the quarter around $64. Downloads for SoundCloud showed a positive trend, growing from 2.8K to over 3.1K. Weekly active users saw a peak of 123K in mid-May before settling around 114K by the end of June.
